Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro has been transferred to the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn, New York. This facility has previously housed high-profile prisoners such as Ghislaine Maxwell and PDD officials.
On Saturday morning, Maduro was taken to a military base in the United States. From there, he was first taken to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) office in New York before being transferred by helicopter to the Brooklyn detention center. He faces charges of drug trafficking and arms smuggling, although Maduro has consistently denied any involvement in drug syndicates.
According to court sources, Maduro and his wife, Silia Flores, are expected to appear before a New York court. However, the exact date of their court appearance has not yet been announced.
It has been reported that until their appearance in Manhattan Federal Court next week regarding the drug and arms case at MDC, Maduro will remain in this detention center. The current status or location of Maduro’s wife, Silia Flores, remains unclear, with no specific information available.
The MDC is known as New York City’s only federal prison and has a reputation for being extremely dangerous. It has been the subject of numerous complaints about unsanitary conditions, violence, and neglect by authorities.
A video posted by the White House Rapid Response account shows drug enforcement officers leading the Venezuelan leader through a corridor. Earlier, former US President Donald Trump stated that Maduro and his wife were forcibly taken out of their residence by US forces.
